SUPPLEMENTARY INSTRUCTION

Supplementary instruction is provided to students who have been determined as eligible for special education and related services. The provision of supplementary instruction must be indicated in the student's Individual Service Plan (ISP) and is designed to complement regular classroom instruction. Student records including ISPs and provisions for supplementary instruction are maintained by the Camden County Educational Services Commission.

Supplementary instruction is scheduled by the Commission's teacher in collaboration with the staff of the nonpublic school. Instruction is conducted in either the nonpublic school building or a classroom trailer located on school property. Students are instructed for forty-five minutes per week in small groups not exceeding five students. Lessons are designed to support, review and reinforce the content and skills taught in the student's regular classroom and to achieve the objectives of the ISP.

Progress Reports for supplementary instruction will be issued at the same time as the nonpublic school's report schedule. Copies of the Progress Report will be provided for the parent(s), school, teacher and student file.

New Jersey statutes require that supplementary instructors are certified teachers and have passed a criminal history background check.

The Camden County Educational Services Commission provides Supplementary Instruction to over 1,500 students annually.
