SPEECH CORRECTION

Students, identified as Eligible for Speech-Language Services are seen by a certified speech-language specialist for therapy in the areas of articulation, phonology, language, fluency and/or voice.
A student may be referred for evaluation and treatment by parents, teachers or others who are concerned about a student's communication skills. Following referral and obtaining permission, the student is evaluated and a meeting is held to relay results and to discuss if services are indicated. A service plan is created if all are in agreement with the initiation of services.
Screenings are routinely conducted at the kindergarten level to identify potential communication disorders. If a student is identified, the procedure described above is used to assist in the timely treatment of the communication problem.
The Camden County Educational Services Commission processes all application forms for these services which results in a high quality and cost effective delivery of services with minimal effort by local district personnel. The Commission provides Speech Correction services to over 900 students annually.
