EXAMINATION AND CLASSIFICATION

A child who is experiencing difficulty in school may be referred for an Initial Child Study Team Evaluation to determine eligibility for special education and related services. Decisions concerning eligibility and services involve Child Study Team consultants, parent(s) and a teacher who has knowledge of the student's educational performance. The Child Study Team consists of a School Psychologist, a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant and a School Social Worker. All Child Study Team consultants are experienced and fully certified by the State of New Jersey to conduct evaluations in specific educational disciplines.

If a student is determined to be eligible, an Individual Service Plan (ISP) is developed which outlines the services to be provided. An Annual Review is conducted to evaluate the appropriateness of the current ISP and to make minor revisions as necessary. Every three years after the Initial Evaluation, a Revaluation is conducted to determine if the student continues to be eligible for services and to revise the ISP as necessary.

The Camden County Educational Services Commission evaluates over 1,500 students annually in this program.
